The murder suspect who has been identified as Lawrence Warunge, was traced and arrested by Kenyan detectives after running to seek refuge in a relative’s house barely a few days after committing the heinous murder.
The Mount Kenya University student also confessed to masterminding the murder of his parents, a brother, a cousin, and the construction by himself.
During the court hearing on Monday, January 11th, Warunge is reported to have not taken any plea as detectives asked for more ample time to finalize the ongoing investigations.
During that time, the murder suspect is said to undergo a mental assessment after the court ordered that he and his girlfriend be detained for 14 days to allow the police to oversee postmortem and DNA tests.
During the court hearing, Warunge shows no signs of any emotion as he calmly sat and waited for orders from the court alongside his girlfriend Sarah Muthoni.
The IT student in detail explained to detectives how he has been planning to kill his parents and later took the detectives to an open field in Mai Mahiu where he had burnt some of the murder weapons and evidence around 11 PM on the same night.
According to the 22-year-old, his family deserved to die because he linked them to witchcraft.
“He claimed that he felt that the parents were out to kill him,” a senior detective told People Daily.
Narrating how he executed the heinous act, Lawrence informed the police he started his mission by killing the construction worker who stayed a few meters from the main house by slitting his throat.
He would then make his way to the kitchen where his mother was preparing a meal and hacked her to death before slitting her throat.
Maxwell Njenga, his 13-year-old cousin was the next victim in response to the commotion in the Kitchen that drew his attention and Lawrence butchered him to death.
He later went to his brother’s room and slit his throat before stabbing his father close to 34 times.
