Feels like Jennifer Lopez is blowing through singles for this upcoming album cycle, never giving them their moment to truly sparkle. After the premiere of "Girls", followed by "Same Girl" and official lead single "I Luh Ya Papi", which is beyond amazing, the talented Latin beauty is quickly moving forward with another radio release, the Max Martin-produced "First Love". Singing of her past relationships, J.Lo gives fans an uptempo, yet still slightly urban, release which differs from what we have heard from her recently.
Thankfully, there is no Pitbull feature this time around, although another pairing is definitely on its way, and no crazy dancefloor-ready beat, just the "On The Floor" singer gliding effortlessly over an upbeat, drum-packed track supported by a strong chorus and flawless vocals. It's a shame that none of the preceding releases got enough time to really find an audience, but the new single just keeps the positive buzz of Lopez' eighth studio album moving.
"First Love", first announced and previewed at a recent brunch invite at J.Lo's surely exquisite residence, combines the two artistic sides of the female entertainer we have come to love over the years. While some of her "Jenny from the Block" persona comes through in the vocal delivery, inspiration from her many club-worthy releases can be heard in the background. This song may not have been initially designed to have you dancing, but you will definitely tap your feet away with the first listen. "I wish you were my first love, cuz if you were first, baby there wouldn't have been no second, third or fourth love," she sings on the catchy hook.
The new single is a solid effort, though it had some initial barriers to cross. A Max Martin-produced effort usually sounds similar to the ones that preceded it. That's not the case here. The progression and overall feel is surprisingly fresh and new, unlike anything currently on the charts. Many do not peg Miss Lopez as the industry's greatest vocalist, but the track may make them think twice. Delivery is not complex, however, she does not miss a note. Finally, listeners will be able to relate to the relationship drama of "First Love" and make the tune a possible summer hit. Thoughts?
