It has been a hot minute since hearing from the talented pop star Neon Hitch. Since featured on "Ass Back Home" with Gym Class Heroes and sending two of her own tracks, "Fuck U Betta" and "Gold", to the top of the dance charts, the red-haired beauty has apparently gone down the indie route with the release of two unique mixtapes and the announcement of her record label departure.
Her latest mixtape,
301 to Paradise, released at the beginning of the year, marked an extreme change in sound and style for the 28-year-old. Leaving behind the heavy beats and provocative lyrics, Neon Hitch is taking things back a few decades with vintage inspiration and the help of NYC-based hip-hop group Kinetics & One Love. The project's first single, "
Some Like It Hot", is bridging the gap of her diverse careers; an infectious and intriguing number with thumping production, but not exactly what you would find on the radio airwaves today.
"
Some Like It Hot", an obvious nod to Marilyn Monroe, appears to be a track about living on the edge of life and love. Enjoying your time with a bit of adventure and mystery. The lyrics fit the artist's recent gypsy life perfectly, living as a traveler, moving from place to place. "
Look what we started, a revolution, take another shot, we like the way it burns," Neon Hitch sings on the hook before the catchy, inescapable chorus comes up to make the track a truly unique and memorable release.
Neon Hitch got her start with a sultry and provocative debut single and music video, but apparently the music was not true to her soul. So, after scrapping a finished album worth of material, the artist is focusing on a new, honest, independently-released project,
Eleutheromaniac. "
Some Like It Hot" is just a small taste of what current fans and new audiences can expect from the singer/songwriter. She has not forgotten about her dance/pop roots, however, there's something more brewing in the mind of Neon Hitch.
