Being a conventional (read: boring) eater most of the time, I have the tendency to stick to the regulars. Just like the simple but always-yummy turon, especially when I see those delightful bits of hardened caramel (or sugar) sticking on the rice wrapper. Who doesn't love turon?!? We've been enjoying this classic meryenda fare since we were kids, right?
Despite saying that, I'm also welcome to try some spins to our beloved Pinoy food classics. Kim (of Kim Is Hungry) told me that there's a new cafe in town whose signature dish is the gourmet turon. My curiosity was instantly piqued. A dressed-up turon? That was something new to me, and it meant this would be another food adventure in Angono lining up!
The name of the cafe is The Sweet Life, which, we later found out, is relatively near to where we live, taking us only a jeepney ride to get there. Kim had also said that her friend owns the place.
Based on my research before going to the cafe, these gourmet turons' origins hark back to Turonne de Manila, a sweets venture which began in Mercato Centrale in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
These gourmet turons actually hold a certain distinction, as they won the "Best Pinoy Dessert Innovation" just last year from Mercato Centrale's The Next Big Food Entrepreneur event. And Angono is quite a lucky place to be brought with these award-winning gourmet turons, whose inspiration behind these is the French éclair. The Sweet Life is located at a new-ish building beside Richmond Subdivision, just above Pizza Hut. Well, all I can say is, it's a very good location. Maybe after stuffing yourself with your Hawaiian pizza and still having some room for dessert, go upstairs to The Sweet Life and commit yourself to your sugary fix. Hehehe.
I was (and still am) charmed by the place the first time we got inside the cafe. It looks adorable and quite trendy, and the sight of the Ferris Wheel cupcake holder fascinated me in no end like a little kid. The cafe has quite an ample space and seating, consisting of couches, end tables, as well as conventional dining tables-and-chairs seating. And when dusk hits the town, they would also offer al fresco dining.
Here's what I found on my first few visits to this charming cafe. Unfortunately on my first visit there, I forgot to crank up my phone camera's ISO level that's why some of the pics here are quite dim. Or that I'm not very good at photography (but I'm not a photographer anyway so it's a valid reason enough).
Overall, I've been having a pleasant time dining at the Sweet Life Cafe. For those who have a sweet tooth in particular, this place will surely be their paradise. It's really a great place to have your sweet fix as well as the place to hang out with friends and family, or take your someone special for that romantic date. There's also a free Wi-fi, and all you have to do is to ask for the password.
I only wish that the cafe features the prices of its menu items, so that customers will be more definite in deciding what to order. But since The Sweet Life has been operating only in their first few months, expect more changes from this cutesy cafe. I'm quite curious and thrilled to try its other offerings as well as newer food items in the future.
On my first visit on the cafe, I ordered my Strawberry Shortcake Turon, but it seemed that the staff had forgotten it so I had to repeat my order (at the time we were halfway done with the rest of our food). Their service has greatly improved on my last visit there, so kudos to them! The staff has always been very nice and friendly so that's a big plus. :)
The place and the food overall are excellent and I'd recommend all foodtrippers to come to The Sweet Life and have a taste of their signature gourmet turons, as well as their other offerings. I will update this page with more pics! :)

Cupcakes and gourmet turons -- a sweet sight to behold! |

Cafe Mocha (if I recall it right), ordered by my sister. Might try it for myself next time. :) |
My cappuccino (as far as I remember) with a heart-shaped foam. It was not too sweet for my taste, always a perfect beverage to clear my palate in between devouring those sweet treats. |
My sister's caramel cake slice. It was not too sweet, and quite pleasant enough. |
Salted Caramel Turon. The most simple-looking gourmet turon, but just as equally good as the others. |
Cupcake with blue buttercream (?) -- I never tasted it, but my sister and niece said it was good. It looked really petty. Next time I will try their cupcakes. |
Ranchero Burger ordered by my friend. It had a fried egg with a still-runny yolk. It looked good. Will order this for myself next time. :) |
The Sweet Life's Valentine's-only special, the Red Velvet Frappe. It was really good. I wish they don't offer this on Valentine's day (or month) alone. |
My friend's Red Velvet Latte, with the chocolate syrup in the bottom. I took a pic of this before the three little sugar hearts started sinking down away from the foam! |
The Red Velvet Cake (for V-day only). It looked too pretty to eat! Another great way to end our burger meal. |
